Introduction: The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of schema therapy on reducing internet addiction and increasing emotional self-awareness in adolescent girls.
Method: In this study, a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design with a control group was used. The statistical population consisted of teenage girls dependent on the Internet who referred to the Bahar Danesh Clinic in Mashhad in 1401. Thirty of these individuals were selected using the available sampling method and based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria for the study and were randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups of 15 people. The instruments of this study were Young's Internet Addiction Questionnaire (IAT) and Grant et al.'s Emotional Self-Awareness Scale (ESQ). The experimental group underwent schema therapy for 10 sessions of 90 minutes, twice a week, and the control group did not receive any intervention. Finally, the data were tested using multivariate and univariate analysis of covariance.
Findings: The results showed that schema therapy can create a significant difference in the mean scores of emotional self-awareness and Internet addiction, which means that schema therapy increases emotional self-awareness and reduces Internet addiction.
Conclusion: Based on this, it can be concluded that schema therapy can be used as an effective approach to reduce Internet addiction and increase emotional self-awareness in adolescents
